Sources: Jefferson Lerma rejects multiple Bournemouth offers

Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma has rejected multiple contract offers ahead of a potential summer exit, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old midfielder’s deal at the Vitality Stadium is set to expire at the end of June.

Sources with knowledge of the situation have revealed that Bournemouth could return with one final bumper offer with their Premier League survival all but guaranteed.

Lerma has been an ever-present figure for the Cherries in the 2022-23 campaign after helping them win promotion back to the Premier League.

The Colombia international has turned out 34 times in the top flight this season, scoring five goals.

He currently earns a reported wage of £55,000-a-week on the south coast.

Lerma joined Bournemouth for a reported club-record fee of £25million back in 2018, signing a five-year deal which has not been extended during his time at the club.

The former Levante star has made 181 appearances for the Cherries and could reach 100 Premier League appearances by the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

As quoted by the Bournemouth Echo (5 May), manager Gary O’Neil insisted he is “hopeful” Lerma will stay at the club – and claimed he has been “fully focused” despite his contract situation.

O’Neil said the midfielder has been “incredible” with the squad throughout the relegation battle.

Lerma, who turns 29 in October, can play in several midfield roles and has even filled in at centre-back this season.

Bournemouth are nine points clear of the relegation zone with three games remaining this term – meaning only an incredible goal difference swing can see them drop to the Championship.

O’Neil’s side face Crystal Palace, Man United and Everton in their final games of the 2022-23 season.
