Celtic expert can't believe it after confirmed '£20m' deal news
Frank McAvennie has agreed with returning Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers by claiming “it doesn’t make sense” for the Hoops to buy players for “£20million”.
The former Parkhead striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed clubs from England or Europe “are not going to pay £40-50million for a Celtic player”.
Celtic have made six signings so far in the summer window – with the most expensive being Legia Warsaw centre-back Maik Nawrocki, who cost a reported £4million.
Meanwhile, winger Jota has been purchased by Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad for a reported fee of £25million – of which the Hoops have received £17.5million.
Despite the windfall, Rodgers has told Sky Sports (5 August) that Celtic will not spend “£15-20million” on any new arrivals this summer.
The Parkhead club last smashed their transfer record last summer to sign Jota from Benfica.

McAvennie told Football Insider: “If you buy someone for £20million, you’re not going to sell him for much more than that. It doesn’t make sense to shop in that market.
“Clubs are not going to pay £40-50million for a Celtic player. They just won’t do that.
“They’ll pay £20-25million, like with Tierney.
“But it’s few and far between, and that’s just the way Celtic work now. They get the players in at a decent price, hopefully they do well – and they’re sold on.
“The TV money is not enough, so they’ve got to find other ways to compete. I think Scottish football deserves a bigger platform than that.”
