Finance guru: Liverpool working on Super League ‘loopholes’ amid behind-the-scenes claim
Liverpool and the Premier League ‘big six’ remain interested in the Super League and will look for ways around independent regulation.
That is the opinion of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the involvement of Premier League powerhouses in plans to reignite the project.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes the Premier League ‘big six’ remain interested in the Super League proposals and will rejoin the project even if it initially launches without them.
The six Premier League teams set to be in the competition all announced their withdrawal from the project in April 2021.
The Telegraph reported last month (31 December) that the government plan to introduce an independent regulator which will have the power to stop Premier League clubs from joining breakaway tournaments.
Plumley believes Liverpool and their Premier League colleagues will be working behind the scenes to find loopholes in the independent regulation.

“I think Laporta may have a point,” Plumley told Football Insider.
“I think there is still interest and we’d be naive to think these conversations aren’t happening behind the scenes.
“An independent regulator would look to put a block on a breakaway league but there’s always a conversation to be had about ways to work around it.
“Irrespective of where we end up with independent regulation, the power of the big six is immense and they will already be discussing possible loopholes and ways to work around it.
“The Super League proposal won’t ever be off the table.“
