New Man United owner told to factor in £2bn new stadium - expert
Any investors looking to purchase Man United outright will have to factor in £2billion plans to refurbish or redevelop Old Trafford.
That is the view of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the increasing demand for refurbishment in the 74,310-seater stadium.
A full takeover of Man United seems to be inching closer, with The Times reporting on Tuesday (17 January) that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has officially entered the race to purchase the Red Devils.
The refurbishment or redevelopment of Old Trafford will be an area of importance for any new owners of the club, with the Daily Mail last Thursday (12 January) reporting that it could cost investors up to £2billion if they were to build an entirely new stadium.
The venue is already the largest club stadium in England, but fans have grown frustrated with the lack of attention paid to the refurbishment of the stadium by the current owners – the Glazer family.
Plumley believes new investors in the club will have to consider any stadium construction or refurbishment in their bid fo the club.

“It ultimately comes down to how the sale price is reported,” Plumley told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Any investor or group of investors who are looking to purchase Manchester United outright should be factoring in the costs of stadium redevelopment or refurbishment.
“It will add a huge sum of money to the takeover price, although whether or not that’s reported in the sale price of the club or not is still yet to be seen.
“But anyone taking over Manchester United will know that stadium expansion or redevelopment is high on the agenda as it has become an issue that is now unavoidable.
“So they’ll have to consider the cost of such a project in their payment plans.“
