Liverpool could pocket 'huge' profit amid £259m claim - expert
Liverpool would pocket millions in broadcasting revenue in the Super League as the project would match or better the income of the Champions League.
That is the view of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the broadcasting potential of the Super League proposal.
As reported by The Mirror, Champions League sides are set to receive a share of Uefa’s £259million pot from broadcasting revenue in the 2022/23 season.
One threat to the broadcasting income of the Champions League is the attempted revival of the Super League, years after its failed launch in April 2021.
However, Eleven Sports CEO Marc Watson has said that the creation of a European Super League would not bring more commercial money from broadcasters as “there is a real value in scarcity”.
Plumley refutes the claim and believes the Super League would not only succeed on a European scale but also crack the international broadcasting market.

“This is a really important point in terms of where the Super League goes next,” Plumley told Football Insider.
“This point of scarcity is a Euro-centric point of thinking.
“The Super League is definitely looking to expand past that and break the international market.
“The international market is very different to the European view on football.
“There is a large proportion of fans around the world that would love to see the Super League week-in, week-out just like the Premier League.
“Broadcasters pay plenty to show Man United and Liverpool playing each other twice a season, and that wouldn’t change.
“The Super League has a different mindset and is looking past that, and I don’t think they’d have an issue generating huge broadcasting numbers.”
