Finance guru: Liverpool fans will be livid after 'ignorant' Super League reveal

The Super League have “ignored” Liverpool supporters and other fanbases by not factoring viewer fatigue into their breakaway project.

That is the view of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the oversight in broadcasting figures in the Super League proposal.

Football Insider attended a summit held by A22 Sports Management, the company involved with reigniting the Super League, in Brussels last Friday (13 January).

During the summit, A22 representative Antón Garcia presented broadcasting figures to indicate why the Super League believe there is no threat of having “too much football”.

The Super League admitted that the possibility of viewer fatigue was not factored into their calculations when determining how much clubs could earn from the breakaway league.

Real Madrid president Fiorentino Perez cited the fact that his side had only played Liverpool nine times in history as part of his Super League justification.

But Plumley believes the failure to consider viewer fatigue is “short-sighted” and could prove costly for the Super League organisers.

“They should certainly be considering it, if not it’s very short-sighted,” he told Football Insider.

They should definitely have thought this through.

The argument is that fans will want to see Liverpool play Real Madrid and Manchester United play Barcelona because those games are great spectacles.

“But they’ve ignored whether Liverpool and Manchester United fans want to see that every week and run the risk of angering them again.

“Certainly from the domestic point of view, they believe the Super League will damage and devalue domestic products.

The Super League won’t care about that, but they should at least be factoring into their calculations the demand of viewers and considering what fans want.

“It’s all very naive and ignorant.
