Fan protests won’t ‘deter’ FSG as Liverpool takeover stance revealed by inside source - expert

Protests over multi-club ownership at Bournemouth and Crystal Palace won’t “deter” FSG from entering Liverpool into a similar model.

That is the opinion of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about FSG’s plans to expand their ownership portfolio in Europe.

Football Insider sources revealed in December that Fenway Sports Group have not yet abandoned their plans to create a multi-club network with Liverpool at the helm.

It’s a model that is growing in popularity in football, with CIES Sports Intelligence reporting that 195 clubs are now involved in a multi-club network.

However, it is a strategy that has faced a lot of backlash from fans, with Bournemouth owner Bill Foley and Crystal Palace stakeholder John Textor both facing criticism and protests from supporters over their running of the clubs.

But Plumley insists FSG won’t be worried by ongoing protests and criticism over multi-club ownership and will continue to adopt the strategy provided they stay majority shareholders at Liverpool.

I think FSG will be mindful of the situations elsewhere and the ongoing protests over multi-club ownership,” Plumley told Football Insider.

But if they’re keen on retaining a majority stake in Liverpool then I don’t think it will worry them too much or put them off using the strategy.

Their network with the Premier League and relationship with other American owners stands them in good stead.

They’ve seen the success of other multi-club systems and everyone is trying to outdo each other.

With no disrespect to Bournemouth or Palace, Liverpool are a much bigger club in the wider football landscape so I think they’ll be aware of the protests but I don’t think it will deter them from buying into the multi-club model.
