Newcastle United eye ‘lucrative’ £20m kit deal after behind-the-scenes ‘regret’ revealed - expert

Newcastle United can realistically target a £20m-a-season kit supplier deal once their current agreement with Castore runs out.

That is the opinion of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the commercial opportunities at St James’ Park following the takeover.

Football Insider sources revealed last Thursday (2 February) that there are private regrets behind the scenes at Newcastle United that the club is locked into a long-term contract with kit supplier Castore.

The Magpies earn a reported £5million per season from their current deal, which is set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Since signing that Castore deal in the 2021/22 campaign, Newcastle have completed their takeover and an upturn of form in the Premier League has seen them rise to fourth in the table.

Plumley believes Newcastle will have to incrementally grow their commercial deals but believes a £20million per season deal is well within their scope.

The Castore deal worked out around £30million throughout its multi-year agreement and Newcastle will have their sights set a lot higher than that.

Following the club’s takeover and also their success on the pitch this season they’ll definitely be looking for a more lucrative offer.

Top Premier League clubs pocket £50-60m-a-year on these kinds of deals but incremental building will be key to Newcastle – they need to grow over time.

Realistically, they will be targeting a deal that brings in £15-20m a season, with half an eye on growing that in the seasons to come.

A deal of that calibre is certainly not beyond their reach provided they maintain the off-pitch performances.
