Finance guru: The Glazers 'won't budge' as £6bn Man United takeover deadline looms

The Glazers will have to hold “internal discussions” regarding negotiation room in their asking price for Man United if their £6billion asking price isn’t met.

That is the opinion of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about whether the Glazers could alter their valuation of Man United.

The Daily Mail reported on Thursday (9 February) that five serious bidders have emerged as candidates to purchase Man United from the Glazers ahead of the cut-off for bids next Friday (17 February).

The Red Devils owners are holding out for bids in the range of £6-8billion after announcing in November that the club are open to investment.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe established an early interest in a takeover, while Qatari investors are also among the frontrunners to buy the club.

However, there are doubts that initial bids will match the Glazers’ £6bn valuation.

Plumley believes the Glazers will stay “stubborn” on their price tag of the club even if initial bids are below the asking price.

“I don’t expect the Glazers to budge on their initial valuations of the club,” Plumley told Football Insider.

“They will stick to that £6-8billion asking price that has been widely reported, it seems that’s the line they have drawn.

“If no one meets that valuation, they will have to hold internal discussions over their room for negotiation and decide just how badly they want out of the club.

“The £6billion asking price will always be naturally higher than the actual valuation of the club, and investors are also wary about extra prices attached to investing in the stadium and training ground.

“It’s not a clear-cut price but the Glazers look ready to be stubborn on their £6billion minimum price tag.

“We know from their time at Old Trafford that they are happy to play hard ball and I expect the same here.”
