Liverpool in 'limbo' after 'huge' courtroom twist - expert
Liverpool have been left in “limbo” after an injunction stopping Uefa from sanctioning clubs involved with the Super League was reinstated.
That is the opinion of finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the impact of the court ruling in Madrid.
The 12 founding clubs of the European Super League have been protected by a court ruling in Madrid this week that states Uefa cannot sanction clubs involved in the breakaway league.
Six Premier League clubs were involved in the initial project but pulled out following mass backlash from fans and media.
However, Super League organisers A22 have returned with a new proposal that includes 60-80 teams and is committed to “open competition”.
An independent regulator is now set to be introduced in English football, and The Telegraph reported in December that it will be granted the power to block breakaway leagues.

Plumley believes the court decision is a “huge boost” for Super League organisers, but insists the imminent regulation of English football leaves Liverpool and their Premier League allies in a difficult situation.
“It’s a fascinating development because it’s the English clubs that this affects most,” Plumley told Football Insider.
“This is a huge positive for the clubs wanting to break away with the court decision ruling in their favour.
“But on the flip side the independent regulator being discussed in English football will supposedly stop clubs from joining breakaway leagues.
“For a club like Liverpool, they’re left in limbo.
“Super League involvement is not completely off the table and there are new proposals being considered, but the independent regulation provides a real block for the Premier League clubs.
“The wording around independent regulation is that the competition has to be sanctioned by the regulator, but that is a stance that can change.”
