Tottenham idol issues three-word verdict on Max Aarons swoop after journalist's exit update

Tottenham should not re-ignite their interest in Norwich City defender Max Aarons this summer, according to Paul Robinson.

The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old is not an upgrade on the current options at Antonio Conte’s disposal.

Spurs have been long-linked with a move for Aarons, who has two years remaining on his contract at Carrow Road.

According to The Telegraph‘s John Percy (1 May), the right-back is set to leave the Canaries in the next transfer window following their relegation.

Tottenham are expected to strengthen their wing-back options in the summer as Conte looks to improve his squad.

When asked if Aarons would be a welcome addition at Spurs, Robinson issued a three-word verdict to Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “Not for me.

“Aarons has been in and out of form this season.

“Would he be an improvement on what Spurs have already got? I don’t think that he would be. They have some quality in that area.

“Conte wants to play a system where the wing-backs have an important role. If Conte wants to improve that position then I think he has to look elsewhere.

“I think Spurs already have players who are as good as Aarons in that area.”

Aarons has made 31 appearances across all competitions for Norwich City this season.

He has also made 14 career appearances for England at Under-21 level.
