Matt Targett's Newcastle United transfer 'just needs to be announced' - pundit
Newcastle and Aston Villa may have already come to an agreement over the transfer of Matt Targett.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s future.
Targett, 26, joined Newcastle on loan in the final hours of the January transfer window.
He has played every minute of every game since moving to St James’ Park, other than the Magpies’ game against his parent club.
As quoted by The Chronicle (21 April), the left-back claimed he “hopes something can be sorted” regarding his future at Newcastle.
Kenny admits he would not be surprised to find out Newcastle and Aston Villa already have a deal in place.

“I would think it just needs to be announced,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Targett has been so good and it is telling that he has never missed a minute since he came in.
“At Villa, I think Digne has that starting spot at Villa now and Targett won’t want to go back to playing second fiddle.
“He must love playing at Newcastle, the fans seem to love him. I can’t see why it wouldn’t happen.
“It works for everyone. I can’t see anyone complaining about it to be honest.
“I honestly think there must have been talks behind the scenes.”
On 8 March, The Chronicle reported Newcastle and Aston Villa have agreed a £15million fee for the left-back.
He made 17 appearances for the Villains during the first half of the current Premier League season.
