Allan McGregor may quit Rangers to sign for rivals as 'huge' deal mooted - pundit
Allan McGregor could quit Rangers and sign for a rival if he is offered a “huge” deal, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender claimed McGregor will likely take a pay cut and become Rangers’ second-choice goalkeeper if he stays at Ibrox.
The 40-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next month and he was given a farewell appearance from the bench in last week’s (21 May) Scottish Cup final win over Hearts.
A Gers source told Football Insider earlier this month (9 May) that they are in advanced talks with the veteran stopper over a new deal.
“Goalkeepers can go on until their 42, 43 and have really good seasons so that’s not necessarily a huge problem if he’s fit and his performances are at the level,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“They may well reduce his wages and keep him on as a number two if they bring somebody else in to learn from his experience. They can give him half a coaching role and half a playing role, and use him in that way.

“If the finances work out and he’s happy to do that then it’s a win-win all round.
“If he’s not going to be your number one then you’ve got to start being creative with what you do and how you do it.
“Unless he’s got big offers elsewhere from others that Rangers can’t match then that will be the only dilemma.
“Apart from that, they can say ‘We want to keep him. End of. We’ll keep him on this financial basis’. If it goes too far in that then they have a decision to make.”
