Arsenal tipped to complete Gabriel Jesus transfer imminently after £85.5m deal done - pundit

The door is open for Arsenal to strike a “quick” deal with Man City for Gabriel Jesus, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England defender claimed Erling Haaland’s move to the Etihad means Jesus will want to go to a club that will make him feel “wanted”.

Man City confirmed earlier this month (10 May) that Haaland will move from Borussia Dortmund this summer and Sky Sports reported the same day the deal will cost £85.5m including agent fees and add-ons.

An Arsenal source told Football Insider last week (25 May) they have opened preliminary talks over signing Jesus, 25, who has told friends he wants to join the club.

It is understood the Gunners are increasingly confident they can wrap up a deal for the Brazil striker.

“With Haaland coming in, Jesus is going to be on the periphery,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“There’s an opportunity for someone to come in and get him quick and get the deal done.

“A lot of this will not be about money, it will be about a club making him feel wanted.

“The one that gets in the first and says ‘Right Ok, you’re our man, we’re desperate for you, let’s get the deal done’ will make him feel loved. Sometimes that’s all you want as a player.

“The money side will take care of itself but he will want to go somewhere where he’s valued and has a real opportunity to play.”

With both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette out of contract next month, Arsenal are currently set to go into pre-season without a senior striker.

Jesus scored eight times in 28 Premier League games this season, including 21 starts, as Man City won the title.

In other news, a ‘£40million’ Arsenal transfer claim has been issued after an Nketiah contract twist.
