Mohamed Salah set for showdown talks after 'putting pressure' on Liverpool - pundit

Mohamed Salah is set for showdown contract talks with Liverpool now the Champions League final is out of the way, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender claimed Salah is attempting to put pressure on the club with his latest comments.

As quoted by Sky Sports ahead of the final (27 May), the winger, who turns 30 in June, claimed he will definitely be at Anfield next season as he is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

Liverpool lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in Paris as they missed out on winning a seventh Champions League and Mills has claimed attention will now turn to Salah’s new contract.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “The Kylian Mbappe deal has probably changed a lot of things for an awful lot of people.

“It’s taken some space out of the market and it’s taken some money out of the market.

“Is there now an option for Salah to go to Real Madrid perhaps? Maybe not with the way he was talking about them, that’s probably not done him any favours.

“We thought PSG would have a lot of money to bring in a world-class replacement for Mbappe so that’s changed things there.

“Salah’s doing what he has to do and nothing more. He’s saying what he’ll do next season and leaving it at that, he’s stalling a little bit. Maybe he’s trying to put a little bit of pressure on the club.

“Now the Champions League is out of the way they need to sit down seriously and work it out. Is he just going to stay for another year or is he going to sign a new deal?”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a ‘gigantic’ Liverpool claim as £400million-a-year talks are set to begin.
