Sadio Mane in 'advanced talks' to quit Liverpool for new club after latest update - pundit

Sadio Mane may have told Liverpool in January he wants to quit Anfield this summer, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender claimed negotiations over Mane’s future may be “a lot more advanced than you think”.

The 30-year-old, like Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, is out of contract at the end of next season.

As quoted by BBC Sport on Friday (27 May), the Senegal international claimed he would reveal his “special” answer over his future after Saturday’s (28 May) Champions League final.

Mane played the full 90 minutes as the Reds lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in Paris.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday (29 May) that the winger has decided he wants to leave Liverpool and is set to inform the club.

“Agents will have been talking to Liverpool for the last six months or so,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“This will not be something that has just come about. They will have been dealing with this for some time, working on it, negotiating, and deciding what is what.

“These are a lot more advanced than you think.

“Look at the Erling Haaland deal at Man City. Allegedly it came out of nowhere and personal terms were agreed in about 35 minutes by all accounts!

“These things are long sorted before you even get to the stage of players meeting clubs, etc.”

Mane ended his season with 23 goals and five assists in 51 games across all competitions.

If he leaves this summer he will end his six-year association with the Reds with 168 goal contributions in 269 appearances across all competitions.
