Chelsea tipped to kickstart £200m summer spree after 'massive' news - pundit
Thomas Tuchel will be backed by new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly as the Blues undertake a “massive” rebuild this summer, according to Danny Mills.
The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the incoming ownership won’t be making “drastic changes” despite an underwhelming 2021-22 campaign.
In a club statement issued on Saturday (28 May), Chelsea confirmed a “final and definitive agreement” has been reached to sell the club to Boehly – with the deal “expected” to close on Monday (30 May).
According to The Telegraph (25 May), the American businessman will hand Tuchel a £200million summer war chest after completing the £4.25billion purchase.
Chelsea finished third in the Premier League and were beaten by Liverpool in the finals of the FA Cup and League Cup this term.
Mills insisted Champions League winner Tuchel will be given time by the new ownership.

He suggested the summer of 2023 could be when Boehly decides to open the chequebook and spend “mega-money”.
“I think with this new owner coming in, they won’t be making any drastic changes immediately,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“They’ll want to look at the operation, keep it on an even keel and address things from there.
“They’ll give Thomas Tuchel a bit of money, as Chelsea have in previous years – and judge him based on that.
“I’m sure they’ll give Tuchel time. Things have been derailed this season – but they’re not daft.
“They just need to have a massive rebuilding season, get some players out the door.
“Next summer – that could be when they really try and push the boat out and spend mega-money in the window.”
