Danny Mills tips Man City to complete Kalvin Phillips signing on one condition after latest
Man City will look to Kalvin Phillips in order to replace Fernandinho if they cannot seal a deal for Declan Rice, according to Danny Mills.
The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Leeds United faithful would not begrudge the 26-year-old a move to the Premier League champions.
According to The Times (23 May) Leeds United star Phillips is at the top of Pep Guardiola’s list of targets to replace Fernandinho at City.
Meanwhile, 90min claim (24 May) West Ham are willing to listen to offers of £120million for long-term Citizens target Rice amid a continued contract standoff.
Mills claimed Chelsea could complicate Man City’s pursuit of Rice should the England star become available this summer.
He suggested the West Ham star is Pep Guardiola’s first-choice midfield target.

“I think Leeds fans would probably accept it if he were to go to Man City,” Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“They’ve got to replace Fernandinho. Their next move could well be for Phillips – depending on whether Declan Rice is available this summer.
“Chelsea look to have a war chest available again, so they could tempt Rice away from City.
“It’s still all to play for at the moment, in terms of transfers. It’s all about who is on the market – and who is in the market.”
Phillips and Rice shone together in midfield for England as Gareth Southgate’s side were beaten finalists at Euro 2020.
The Leeds United midfielder is out of contract in June 2024, while Rice’s contract can be extended until the summer of 2025.
