Oleksandr Zinchenko 'would love' to quit Man City and join Arsenal - pundit

Oleksandr Zinchenko “would love” to quit Man City and join a club where he will play week in, week out, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England defender suggested Zinchenko will find that difficult at the Etihad where Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker are ahead of him in the full-back pecking order.

The Evening Standard reported on Monday (6 June) that Arsenal and West Ham have stepped up their interest in the 25-year-old.

It is claimed City will not stand in his way if he wants to leave and Arsenal will offer the opportunity for him to play more regularly in midfield while West Ham are looking for cover at left-back.

He has two years left to run on his Man City contract and previously worked under Mikel Arteta at the club.

“As a player, you always want to play,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You go through stages in your career and you want to establish yourself in this team, that team and then you get to the point where you think ‘I deserve to be playing every week’.

“Unfortunately at Man City with Cancelo at left-back and Walker at right-back, it’s very difficult to play week in, week out. Then the decision is ‘Do I have to just drop down a level to play week in, week out or do I stay as a bit-part player?’ Only he can make that decision.

“Most footballers would love to play week in, week out. That’s what you do, that’s the whole point of training every single day, to play games.”

While featuring regularly at left-back for City, Zinchenko has impressed in a more advanced role for Ukraine.

The country had their World Cup dreams shattered on Sunday (5 June) when they lost their final play-off game 1-0 to Wales.
