Tyrone Mings and Aston Villa teammate may be sold after £26m deal is done - pundit

Tyrone Mings could be on his way out of Aston Villa this summer, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England full-back claimed at least one of Aston Vills’s five senior centre-backs would be moved on during the transfer window.

The club confirmed the signing of Diego Carlos from Sevilla last week (1 June) and BCC Sport reported last month (26 May) that they had paid £26milion for the 29-year-old’s services.

It leaves Steven Gerrard with five senior centre-backs with Mings, Ezri Konsa, Callum Chambers and Kortney Hause also in the squad.

Konsa may miss the start of the 2022-23 season after suffering a knee injury towards the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Chambers was brought in during the January transfer window while Hause signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal in the same month.

“I’d be surprised if one or two aren’t moved on within that,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They are doing their business right. Getting the players in first rather than letting them go first when clubs will say ‘Oh, they’re desperate, they’ve got to get a centre-half in’.

“They’ve gone ‘No, we’ve got our players in, now we can let some go’. That’s the right way round of doing things.”

Mings, who was made club captain when Jack Grealish moved to Man City last summer (2021), is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2024.

The 29-year-old has played 128 times across all competitions for the Midlands giants since his arrival from Bournemouth, initially on loan, in January 2019.
