Mills issues 'perfect' James Milner claim as new Liverpool details emerge
James Milner thoroughly deserves his new Liverpool contract, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and Leeds United full-back claimed Jurgen Klopp will be thrilled Milner has signed a new deal on reduced terms.
The club confirmed earlier this week (6 June) that the 36-year-old had agreed a new one-year contract with his previous deal set to expire at the end of June.
He told the club website that Klopp’s thoughts on the role he can play in the 2022-23 season played a “big” part in his decision.
Sky Sports reported the same day Milner had interest from a Premier League rival and two MLS sides but decided to sign a new contract on reduced terms.
“He’s a coach on the playing field,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s happy there, his family are happy where they are living and don’t want to move.
“He’s happy to play 10-15 games and be a part of it under not too much pressure. Good luck to him, he deserves it.
“He’s a fantastic professional, leads by example. On reduced terms, Jurgen Klopp is thinking ‘Perfect’.
“What a great signing to have. In pre-season, he’s going to be leading the way as the senior statesman.
“It’s easy for the manager to say ‘If he’s doing it, why aren’t you doing it?’ It makes Jurgen Klopp’s job so much easier.”
Milner played 39 times across all competitions in the 2021-22 season, including 14 starts, as the Reds won the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
He moved to Anfield from Man City on a free transfer in the summer of 2015.
