Sources: Trippier jets in for Newcastle medical after £18m deal agreed
Kieran Trippier is jetting in to undergo a Newcastle United medical on Wednesday after they agreed a fee worth a potential £18million for him with Atletico Madrid, Football Insider understands.
The 31-year-old will become the first signing of the Saudi-backed regime in a deal that is set to be completed in the coming days.
A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that the club will pay an initial £12m for Trippier topped up by a potential £6m payment if they avoid relegation this season.
The £18million deal is one United will not mind paying if it means they are competing in next season’s Premier League.
Negotiations stalled for a while over personal terms as the England international held out for a long-term deal worth around £120,000-a-week.

The demands of Trippier, who turned 31 in September, have been met and he is set to be Newcastle’s highest paid player.
His capture from Spanish champions Atletico will be regarded as a statement signing in the industry and could also persuade other top stars to head to Tyneside this month.
Newcastle are working on multiple deals, with talks underway on recruiting two new centre-backs and a central midfielder.
United could also recruit a centre-forward following Callum Wilson as well as a left-back before the window shuts.
Trippier joined Diego Simeone’s side in the summer of 2019 from Tottenham and has been a mainstay of the starting line-up over the last three seasons.
He is proven in the Premier League, where he has made 107 appearances in total, after spells at Spurs and Burnley.
