Kieran Maguire: Tottenham could knock Manchester giants off their perch after '£10m' reveal
Tottenham may be about to overtake Man United as the Premier League’s biggest matchday income generator.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about United’s plan to keep hold of their status as top dogs.
The Daily Mail reported last Thursday (23 December) that United are set to appoint a master planner to oversee a 6,000 capacity boost at Old Trafford.
That would make the Theatre of Dreams an 80,000-capacity venue with almost 17,000 more seats than Spurs’ stadium opened in 2019.
Spurs announced today (31 January) that they have received approval for licensed safe standing, although capacity will remain the same.
The statement issued by the club claimed that the stadium had been “future-proofed” for safe standing during its construction.

Maguire claims that Spurs’ state-of-the-art amenities could give them the edge over United despite Old Trafford’s greater capacity.
“Man United make around £1,500 per fan per season,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“So if you add another 6,000, we’re talking somewhere in the region of £9m and £10m per year.
“United’s matchday revenue is key and has been the highest in the Premier League for many, many years.
“But they may be about to be overtaken by Spurs because they charge higher ticket prices and the facilities are a lot better.”
Man United, who beat Burnley 3-1 at Old Trafford last night (30 January), are currently 6th in the Premier League.
Spurs will overtake them with victory over Watford tomorrow (1 January).
