Raheem Sterling: Pundit 'sure' Man City are 'cashing in' on superstar after source's reveal

Kevin Phillips has insisted he is “sure” Man City will be sounding out potential bidders for contract rebel Raheem Sterling ahead of the summer window.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old may be eyeing a move abroad after his success with the Citizens.

As revealed by this site on Wednesday (20 April), Sterling is prepared to run down his contract and become a free agent next summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (19 April), AC Milan will look to tempt the winger to join if their proposed £827million takeover goes through.

The England star has notched 14 goals and seven assists in 40 games across all competitions this term.

Phillips claimed City will consider “cashing in” – with any potential fee important from “a business perspective”.

“You can look at it a couple of ways,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Does he want to let it run down so he can go on a free and pick up more money somewhere else? But it’s not about money for Sterling, surely.

“For me, it’s probably about a lifestyle change. He’s won almost everything at City, maybe he wants to go abroad and try his hand over there.

“From Man City’s point of view, looking at it from a business perspective – you would probably look to cash in. I’m sure they’ll be sounding out potential buyers to see if they can get a sizeable fee this summer.”

Sterling has scored 128 goals for Man City in 332 games since joining for a reported £49million in 2015.
