Aston Villa news: Phillips verdict on Keinan Davis joining Nottingham Forest after '£4m' reveal

Aston Villa will let red-hot Nottingham Forest loanee Keinan Davis decide if he wants to move to the Championship next season.

That is the view of former Claret and Blue striker Kevin Phillips, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old’s future amid interest from Forest and Norwich.

This site revealed on Thursday (21 April) that Nottingham Forest will try and sign Davis permanently if they are promoted to the top flight.

Meanwhile, a Norwich source told Football Insider earlier this month (18 April) that Norwich are interested in reuniting the hitman with former boss Dean Smith this summer.

It is understood that Aston Villa will demand £4million for Davis – who is under contract until June 2024.

Phillips suggested a move could hinge on the striker’s “ambitions”, as well as “financial” aspects.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “£4million doesn’t sound a lot, does it?

“But at the end of the day, the player is crucial in any potential move. Would he play regularly in the Premier League? Probably not.

“I think he’d play week-in, week-out in the Championship. It just comes down to the player and his ambitions, as well as the financial side of things.

“But Norwich look certain to come down, he could go there, play every week, further his development – and have a crack at the Premier League when they come back.“I think Villa will leave it down to the player.”

Aston Villa academy product Davis has notched five goals and three assists in 19 appearances since joining Forest in January.

He made just one Premier League start last term.
