Calvin Ramsay: Expert issues verdict on sensation snubbing Liverpool for Leeds after source's update

Kevin Phillips has urged Aberdeen starlet Calvin Ramsay to snub Liverpool for Leeds United for the sake of his long-term development.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 18-year-old would not play regularly enough at Anfield.

A recruitment source told this site on Thursday (28 April) that Leeds United have been granted permission to hold talks with Ramsay as they plot a multi-million pound signing – amid interest from Liverpool.

It is understood that Aberdeen intend to hold out for a “significant” seven-figure fee for the newly-crowned Scottish young player of the year.

Scotland under-21 international Ramsay has played 31 times this season, scoring one and assisting nine.

Phillips insisted the sensation is guaranteed game time if he joins the Whites this summer.

“When you’re coming into the Premier League, you just have to be patient,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Where is he going to play regularly, Liverpool or Leeds? He’s got to pick Leeds, hasn’t he?

“From the player’s perspective, he’s got to decide what he wants to do. Join a club, win trophies, but not play – or join Leeds and play week-in, week-out at a top club.

“Personally, I would join Leeds if I was him – unless he was guaranteed game time at Liverpool, which I can’t see happening any time soon.”

Ramsay would have to gazump Trent Alexander-Arnold in the Liverpool pecking order, while Luke Ayling stands in the youngster’s way at Leeds United.

The 18-year-old’s Aberdeen contract expires in May 2024.
