Man United set to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka amid 'massive' claim - pundit

Kevin Phillips has backed Aaron Wan-Bissaka to follow the example set by Wilfried Zaha and rejoin Crystal Palace from Man United this summer.

The former Eagles striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the “most sensible decision” for the 24-year-old would be to return to “familiar surroundings” at Selhurst Park.

According to The Athletic (28 April), Crystal Palace are interested in bringing Wan-Bissaka back to south London – three years on from his £50million move to Man United.

The report claims any potential move is likely to be on loan.

Zaha made just two league appearances for Man United before returning to Palace – the club where he came through the ranks – also on an initial loan deal.

Phillips claimed Wan-Bissaka is simply “not suited” to Man United and should return to his boyhood club.

“It’s a shame because I like him,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“However, he hasn’t really progressed at Man United – although the club have been in a massive decline themselves.

“It didn’t work out for Wilf Zaha either, and being a London boy – he couldn’t wait to get back to Palace. I know that because I was at the club at the time.

“Some players just don’t suit football clubs. That seems to be the case for Wan-Bissaka – he just doesn’t suit Man United. It happens.

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he went back to Palace and performed just as well as he was when he left.

“That could be the most sensible decision, just to go back to familiar surroundings. If you’re comfortable and happy, then that’s when you play the best football.”

Palace boss Patrick Vieira has added fuel to the fire ahead of a potential move this summer.

As quoted by football.london (29 April), the ex-midfielder refused to comment on the rumours but insisted Wan-Bissaka is still loved at the club.
