Man United told to seal 'big' Kalvin Phillips deal amid '100%' claim - pundit

Kevin Phillips has urged Man United to complete a summer swoop for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old would bring a “big-game mentality” to Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic (27 April), Man United could make a formal approach for Leeds United star Phillips this summer as they plan a midfield overhaul.

The report claims the Red Devils have begun exploring a £50million move through intermediaries ahead of the summer window.

19-cap England ace Phillips has made just 16 league appearances this term after spending over three months out with a hamstring problem.

When asked if the midfield star would be a sensible addition for Man United this summer, Phillips told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “100%.

“There’s no argument about the fee, for me. He’s a class player and an established international.

“Him and Declan Rice are two of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

“If United can secure Phillips’ services I think that would be a great signing.

“I think he’s got that big-game mentality, as well. We saw it at the Euros, the big games didn’t faze him at all.

“Him going to a big club like Man United this summer wouldn’t be a surprise at all – but it would obviously be a big loss for Leeds.”

Phillips started every match as England were defeated in the final of the European Championships last year (2021).

The Leeds United star is under contract at Elland Road until 2024
