Arsenal told to complete cut-price Marcus Rashford signing after source's reveal - pundit

Kevin Phillips has urged Arsenal to negotiate a cut-price deal for Man United star Marcus Rashford this summer.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old needs to leave Old Trafford to “reignite his career and his passion for the game”.

A recruitment source told Football Insider last week (28 April) that Arsenal have registered their interest in a summer deal for Rashford.

It is understood that Mikel Arteta’s side have set aside £45million to recruit a new star striker and the Man United ace is among their top targets.

Rashford, who is out of contract in June 2023, has netted just five goals in 32 appearances across all competitions this term.

Phillips insisted £45million is “far too much” for the England striker considering his performances this term.

“I can’t see him being valued at much – he just hasn’t done enough in the past year,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I think the biggest thing he needs to do is leave Man United. He needs to reignite his career and his passion for the game.

“Arsenal can get him through the door with that £45million budget – that is far too much to spend on him, and I’d be negotiating that price down, for sure.

“He needs to show everyone what he can do again – not least Gareth Southgate, because he’s going to struggle to stay in that England squad.”

Arsenal are set to be without a senior striker this summer.

Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are set to walk away when their contracts expire in June.

The Gunners sit fourth in the Premier League and are in the box seat to secure Champions League football next term.
