Tottenham tipped to seal John McGinn deal amid 'out of this world' claim - pundit

John McGinn’s “out of this world” work ethic will be the “driving force” behind a potential move to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham this summer.

That is according to former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 27-year-old’s future.

According to The Telegraph (18 May), McGinn is being targeted by Tottenham ahead of the summer window with Conte looking to add six new faces.

The Scotland international, who has made 34 league appearances this season, is under contract at Aston Villa until June 2025.

Tottenham can confirm a top-four finish by beating Norwich on the final day (22 May) but a draw should be enough to finish above Arsenal – barring a 15-goal swing.

Phillips insisted McGinn would not be “overawed” by a potential move to a Champions League club.

“He’s so industrious. His work ethic is out of this world,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“That’ll be the driving force behind the move. That sort of energy is Conte in a nutshell, you can see it on the touchline.

“Let’s not forget, he’s got quality as well. He’s technically very good, and he can chip in with goals.

“He’s been at a big club in Aston Villa. Tottenham would be a step up, but I don’t think it would overawe him.

“I think we’ll see the best of him again next season. He’d fit into that Tottenham side with no problems.”

Reports linked Man United with a move for McGinn in the January transfer window but a transfer failed to materialise.

The Glasgow-born star has notched three goals and four assists this term.
