Everton could sign multiple rising stars amid 'big treasure chest' claim - pundit

Kevin Phillips has told Frank Lampard he must “freshen up” his Everton squad by moving for more youth this summer.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Toffees boss could have a “big treasure chest” at his disposal – with big-ticket sales possible.

Jonjoe Kenny, Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun and Gylfi Sigurdsson are all set to depart Everton when their contracts expire this summer – while exits for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are possible.

Football Insider revealed last month (19 April) that Everton will listen to offers for their two biggest assets this summer in order to raise funds.

It is understood that owner Farhad Moshiri is plotting an overhaul of the squad that has struggled so badly under a series of managers despite vast investment.

However, Phillips insisted a “massive overhaul” is not needed – but expects an “injection of youth” from Lampard given his track record.

“Once the dust settles, I’m sure Frank will be assessing the squad and talking to the owners,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It all depends, really, on the financial state of the club and whether they need to make any big sales.

“He could well have a big treasure chest to play with, whether the board come up with the money or he raises it through sales.

“There are players at the football club who need to move on, and it just needs freshening up. I don’t think they need a massive overhaul – they’ve shown their quality in the final games of the season.

“They need a tweak this summer to shift them into a different direction.

“Frank Lampard is certainly the person to go to in order to inject more youth into the side.”
