Arsenal told to complete 'brilliant' Luiz signing after update - pundit
Kevin Campbell has insisted Arsenal must consider a “brilliant” move for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 23-year-old has developed even further under the stewardship of new Villa boss Steven Gerrard.
As reported by The Sun (1 January), Luiz has joined contract rebel Denis Zakaria on Mikel Arteta’s shortlist as he targets a midfield addition this month.
The five-cap Brazil international will have just 12 months to run on his contract at Villa Park at the end of this season.
Campbell insisted Luiz has “plenty of room for growth” as Arteta eyes a midfielder for the future.
“Douglas Luiz is a very good player,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He’s done excellently at Aston Villa. He’s playing even better now that Steven Gerrard has got hold of him – which is no surprise.
“I think clubs like Arsenal have to be looking at the likes of Douglas Luiz. He’s young, there’s plenty of room for growth, and he’s experienced in the Premier League.
“I think it would be a brilliant move.“
Luiz was part of the Brazil squad which claimed the gold medal at last year’s Tokyo Summer Olympics.
The Villa star signed for the Midlands club from Man City for a reported £15million in 2019.
The midfielder has made 15 Premier League appearances so far this term, assisting three goals.
Arsenal sit fourth in the Premier League after 20 games.
The transfer window slams shut at 11pm on 31 January.
