Paul Merson makes bizarre West Ham analogy, predicts PL clash with Arsenal

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has compared West Ham United to a bag of Revels after their recent unpredictable Premier League form.

David Moyes’ produced one of the shock results of the season so far when they beat champions Chelsea 1-0 at the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

It was the Hammers’ first win in nine Premier League games and Moyes’ first since he replaced former boss Slaven Bilic last month. It was not enough to lift them out of the bottom three but takes them level on points with 17th-placed West Brom in the Premier League table.

Moyes’ side face another difficult when London rivals Arsenal visit the London Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday evening and Merson has made his prediction for the game.

“West Ham are a bag of Revels. I watched them play at Everton, and they were absolutely slaughtered. They were so poor. They then could have got a result at Man City then they beat Chelsea,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“I still think Arsenal will win this, because Arsenal do have joy at West Ham, and they put so much into that win over Chelsea they might not have much left in the tank.”

Marko Arnautovic scored the game’s only goal after six minutes on Saturday as West Ham produced arguably their best performance of the season so far.

However, despite their heroics against Chelsea at the weekend, Merson feels the Hammers’ player will not be able to replicate their performance against the Gunners.

Merson is predicting a 3-1 win for the away side, who are unbeaten in their last three matches against West Ham and won 5-1 at the London Stadium last season.

In other West Ham news, the club have been offered this Premier League striker in January, according to a report.
