Allardyce has the perfect response to tetchy Klopp interview after Liverpool v Everton draw

Sam Allardyce took control of his first Merseyside derby today, earning a 1-1 draw at Anfield and was adamant that his side deserved the penalty that got them back in the game.

A moment of genius from red-hot Mo Salah gave the Reds the lead just before half-time, but Toffees’ captain Wayne Rooney found the back of the net from the spot to tie the game.

Referee Craig Pawson had no doubts that Lovren’s push in the area on Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a penalty, and did not let the 53,000 in attendance sway his decision.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Allardyce claimed that Lovren “He had no need to do it.”

“Credit to Craig Pawson for giving it at Anfield.”

A swift counter-attack saw Calvert-Lewin with the ball at feet inside the Reds’ penalty area, but seemed to be going nowhere before contact was made between himself and the Croatian defender, and DLC hit the deck.

“Don’t put your hands on a forward when he’s in the box. Don’t mess with him, push him or shove him,” Allardyce added.

Everton never really looked threatening to the Liverpool goal, having only two shots on target during the whole game, however, the toffees defended really well throughout.

When asked if he thought it was a penalty, the newly appointed Everton manager simply replied “yes.”

His views are in contrast to Jurgen Klopp, who was adamant in a tetchy interview after the game that it was not a penalty.

Klopp did not come off well in the interview after a game that must have been frustrating.

This is a valuable point for Everton, who started the season very poorly under now unemployed Ronald Koeman.

The Toffee’s are loving life under Allardyce, and are yet to lose with the experienced manager at the helm – up next is an away trip to Struggling Newcastle.
