Football Insider verdict
Nottingham Forest have shown real ambition in this summer transfer window so far, proving that they could surprise a fair few people this season.
Forest boss Aitor Karanka is quietly building a very good squad at the City Ground ahead of the new season – it’s similar to what he did in his time as Middlesbrough boss, and they were promoted to the Premier League soon after.
So far this summer, they’ve signed four genuinely high-quality players. Diogo Goncalves and Joao Carvalho arriving on-loan from Benfica are two hugely exciting signings who have the ability to light up the Championship.
The same can be said for Gil Dias, arriving from Monaco, who played regularly in Serie A on loan last season, he should have no problems playing in the second-tier of English football.
Michael Dawson has also arrived from Hull City, he has vast experience in this division and the defender will tighten up the Forest defence, an absolute bargain too after signing on a free transfer.

Then there are the players that Karanka has been linked with. In defence, as reported in the Nottingham Post, the club have been linked with Jack Robinson of QPR, who will available on a free transfer, he’s a cracking left-back and will solve a problem position in the squad ahead of the new season.
The Spaniard reportedly also seeks a reunion with Boro defender Fabio, as reported in the Nottingham Post, who would also be a top-quality signing at either right-back or left-back.
In midfield, the club would not go far wrong by trying to bring back Jack Colback, either on loan or permanently, as he showed his class in his loan spell at the club last season.
In attack, Forest have been linked with striker Lewis Grabban, as reported in the Nottingham Post, who definitely add some firepower to this squad.
However, the icing on the cake would be the signing of Patrick Bamford who, as reported in Teeside Live, is a target this summer. The 24-year-old started his career at the City Ground, before going to Chelsea at aged just 18.
If they could get that deal over the line, Forest could be serious promotion contenders, if they’re not already.
In other Nottingham Forest news, the club are plotting a move for defender Jack Robinson this summer.
