Brendan Rodgers delivers verdict on Celtic swoop for Liverpool striker

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has played down any interest in Liverpool striker Danny Ings, who he worked with at Anfield.

The 25-year-old hitman wants to leave Liverpool in order to get regular match time, and although Rodgers is a big fan of the player he disclosed that the Hoops aren’t currently in the market for another striker following the permanent signing of Odsonne Edouard.

“Danny is a fantastic player and has been really, really unfortunate for a few years with injury but I have got the three strikers at the moment and we don’t need any more” Rodgers said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“We just signed young Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal and he is a class act. We also have Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths so with those three we are well covered.”

It looks like the only way Danny Ings could find a way to Celtic Park will be if Moussa Dembele is sold in the summer. Otherwise the Hoops don’t need to sign anymore strikers. If you ask the Hoops support they would rather have the Frenchman in the side than the former Liverpool man, as he has a far better goal record for a start. There also has to be doubt that the Hoops could afford the wages that Ings would command, especially after breaking their transfer record to sign Odsonne Edouard. Ings is undeniably a good player, but at this moment in time he just doesn’t seem to be needed at the Hoops. Of course things can change very quickly, with injuries or a player being sold, but for the moment Rodgers seems very happy with his three strikers. And so he should be, as they have helped the Hoops dominate Scottish football for the last two seasons.
