Celtic will regret not trying to bring much-improved 29y/o midfielder back to Glasgow - view

Celtic have made an error in judgement in not trying to bring Ki Sung-yeung back to the club.

The South Korean midfielder, who left the Hoops in 2012 to join Swansea, recently completed a free transfer to Newcastle, and Brendan Rodgers may live to regret not swooping in to bring the player back to Glasgow.

The 29-year-old is a far better player now than he was when he left the Hoops seven years ago.

He seemed very raw back then, but now he is the complete player, despite Swansea’s relegation last season.

The fact that a manager like Rafa Benitez moved in to sign the player is an indication of Ki’s quality, and he would have been the experienced midfielder the Hoops need to compliment Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham.

Of course, even if the Hoops wanted to bring Ki back to Glasgow they might not have been able to afford his wages, but if he returned fans would have been able to see a midfielder who has came on leaps and bounds since he left Scotland.

It seemed like a lot of fans weren’t convinced about Ki’s quality when he was with the Hoops, and indeed he wasn’t always a regular under then manager Neil Lennon.

But unquestionably he is a better player now than he was back then and he would have been a very good player for the Hoops to have in their squad for the Champions League challenge which lies ahead.
