'You couldn’t publish it' - 27y/o striker delivers honest verdict on record Celtic deal

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has admitted that the Bhoys’ signing of Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal hasn’t made his life at Parkhead any easier.

The 27-year-old is now in a battle with Edouard and Moussa Dembele to become the Bhoys’ number one striker, and although the signing of Edouard might not be good on a personal level for Griffiths he does concede that the signing of the Frenchman is great for the team.

“It doesn’t get any easier for me. Moussa came in
two years ago then Odsonne
last season” Griffiths said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“It gets more difficult. The manager keeps putting hurdles in my way and I need to step over them all the time. But I will do my best to stay in the starting line-up.

“What was my reaction when Odsonne signed? You couldn’t publish it!

“But that’s purely from a selfish perspective. You want to play as many games as you can. From a team point of view it’s great that we can bring in that kind of quality.”

Griffiths still managed to hit double figures in goals for the Bhoys last season despite being affected with injury for long spells of the season.

Football Insider verdict

Leigh Griffiths’ comments are full of honesty, which Hoops fans will certainly appreciate. He wants to play every week for the Bhoys, but unless something changes dramatically that is not going to happen next season. That doesn’t mean that he is going to leave the Bhoys, but Griffiths won’t be at all happy if he is stuck in the bench all week. For most managers it would be a good problem to have, with three great strikers on the books. But that might not be the case for Brendan Rodgers, who will have to keep record signing Odsonne Edouard, star striker Moussa Dembele and Griffiths all happy each week. With the Hoops boss favouring one striker most weeks, he could well have two annoyed strikers to deal with each week. It is up to Rodgers to find a solution to keep each player happy, and that might be a lot harder than it looks.
