Rangers are paying a six-figure loan fee to get Sadiq - report

Rangers are paying a six-figure loan fee in order to sign AS Roma attacker Umar Sadiq on a season-long loan, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun report that Gers boss Steven Gerrard is now confident that there is now a deal in place to welcome the 21-year-old forward to Ibrox.

The newspaper state that Sadiq isn’t expected to fly out to Spain to join Rangers’ training camp but his signing is set to be confirmed by this weekend.

Football Insider verdict:

Signing Sadiq on a season-long loan is a smart piece of business even if it seems like costly one after this report. The 21-year-old forward scored five goals, while creating three, in 16 appearances for NAC Breda while on loan with them last season and should instantly bolster Gerrard’s attacking options at the club. Hopefully Sadiq is able to settle into the squad quickly once he is successfully signed as he could be a difference maker in the Gers’ upcoming Europa League clash with FC Shkupi. This report states that Gerrard was hoping to have Sadiq through the doors in enough time for him to settle in the squad before the Europa League first qualifying round first leg which takes place on July 2, and it seems like he will get his wish. If Sadiq goes through this weekend then that is more than enough time for him to take part in enough training sessions in order to at least be a squad member for the match against FC Shkupi.
