Herrera on brink of Rangers exit - report
Eduardo Herrera is on the verge of leaving Rangers in order to join Mexican side Toluca, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim that the 29-year-old forward, who didn’t attend the club’s training camp in Spain, is now set to join Liga MX’s Toluca in this window.
Herrera was signed by former Gers boss Pedro Caixinha last summer and only managed to score two goals in 24 appearances for the club.
Football Insider verdict:
This news will hardly have Rangers fans tearful over his departure as the 29-year-old has never looked good enough for the Gers in his outings. The forward will always be seen as a flop with his departure thankfully now imminent. It seems new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has wasted no time in getting rid of the club’s deadwood and he clearly made it clear to Herrera that his future wasn’t at Ibrox. The forward would no doubt have loved an opportunity to stick around but it seems the Gers have correctly decided to get him off their books as soon as possible. Herrera may be contracted to stay at Ibrox until 2020 but surely he knows if he sticks around at the club he won’t be playing regularly anytime soon. Ahead of joining the Gers last summer the forward had never played his domestic football outside of Mexico and it seems that he’s willing to return to his nation in order to revive his career after a dreadful spell in Scotland. However the Scottish Sun don’t reveal whether this is a permanent or temporary exit.
