Liverpool have had no offers for Sturridge, wages an issue - report

Liverpool have received no formal offers for Daniel Sturridge with clubs unwilling to match the Reds’ £15million asking price for the attacker, according to a report.

Goal report that Sevilla and Fenerbahce expressed an interest in signing the 28-year-old but didn’t pursue with making a bid.

Due to the lack of offers for Sturridge it could force the Reds to lower his price tag as the club are aware that the forward is in the final year of his contract.

It is believed that the forward’s £150,000-a-week salary is potentially the issue stopping any deal developing as Sturridge is willing to wait for the right offer to come along rather than forcing his exit.

Football Insider verdict:

Goal go onto state that Newcastle United as well as Inter Milan have also cooled their interest in Sturridge and this suggests that the Reds need to slash his price in order to get rid. As it stands while his ability and lack of playing time make it seem certain that he will leave, clearly his wage demands have other ideas. It seems that as Sturridge knows his current contract expires in 2019 then he is willing to wait at Anfield for an opportunity as he knows he can exit for free next summer. The Reds, especially given the forward’s wages, need to take the initiative and lower their price in order to make him a more attractive prospect to clubs on the hunt for a forward. With a lower price tag attached to him then teams such as the Magpies could reignite their interest in him. After all the 28-year-old is a proven Premier League goalscorer as he has scored 75 goals in 200 appearances in England’s top-flight.
