Everton would offer Celtic star £60,000-a-week deal if he joined - report
Celtic are braced for a bid from Everton with the Merseyside club planning to offer £25million for defender Kieran Tierney, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun report that Toffees manager Marco Silva has made the 21-year-old Hoops left-back his top target this summer with the club searching for a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines.
The newspaper state that a Toffees’ offer would lead to a huge decision for Tierney as the Premier League side would pay him £60,000-a-week wage if he joined them.
Football Insider verdict:
At this point Celtic fans should expect clubs to continually circle Tierney as he is a talented defender who is only set to get better due to his young age. However it seems the Toffees are going to do what they can to tear the 21-year-old defender away from the Hoops but that doesn’t mean they will be successful. The promising left-back, who made 55 appearances in his 2017/18 campaign, signed a long-term contract with the Hoops in 2017 and there’s no reason to suggest that he is looking to jump ship. The left-back has risen through the ranks at the club to be a key player and clearly carries Celtic in his heart so a lucrative wage offer may not see him want to leave in order to ply his trade elsewhere. While the Toffees are right to target Tierney as he would be the perfect replacement for Baines at the club unless they submit an offer higher than the £25million they’re planning to bid it seems they will be unlucky in their quest. Brendan Rodgers believes Celtic would struggle to turn down an astronomical fee’ for Tierney but £25million can hardly be described as that when you see how much the Toffees have spent on signing other players in recent time.
