'Spurs will sign him', 'Not again' - Some Newcastle fans react to reported interest in Plea
Some Newcastle United fans on social media opted to crack jokes about the club’s chances of signing Nice forward Alassane Plea after it was revealed that West Ham had bid £27million for him.
According to a report by Sky Sports the Hammers had submitted a £27million offer for the forward and that the Magpies, Fulham as well as Tottenham were interested in signing the attacker this summer.
Upon hearing how much the forward was going for one Magpies fan tweeted that he thought his club would bid £15million for Plea at the last minute in order to for the club to claim that they tried.
Football Insider has rounded up a selection of tweets by Magpies supporters about them pursuing Plea:
Newcastle will follow up with a last minute £15m 'we tried' bid.

Football Insider verdict:
It seems Magpies supporters are happy to joke about their club’s unwillingness to spend big money on getting one player through the door. While most would dream of Plea rocking up at St James Park after he scored 21 goals in his 2017/18 campaign, they know that Mike Ashley is unlikely to splash £25m+ on getting the forward. It’s bizarre that the Magpies are considered to be in the hunt for Plea due to the price that he will potentially go for but who knows maybe this is finally the summer where the club spend a massive amount on getting the attacker they so desperately need. The only positive as far as Magpies fans are concerned is at least they haven’t lost their sense of humour.
