Newcastle must swoop for Lallana - view

COMMENT

Newcastle United should look to sign Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana this summer as a deal for the 30-year-old could easily be struck after the Reds welcomed two new midfielders this summer.

Lallana had an injury-hit 2017/18 campaign and was only able to make 16 appearances across all competitions for the Merseyside club.

Due to this it’s clear that his place in Jurgen Klopp’s side is no doubt at risk as the German boss cannot rely on him to stay injury free.

Lallana also faces not being seen as a first-team regular at Anfield in the upcoming season as the Reds signed Naby Keita and Fabinho who will no doubt knock the 30-year-old English midfielder down in the club’s pecking order.

The midfielder is no doubt aware that after having a terrible time due to injury, he needs to regularly play for a club in the 2018/19 season and this should see him seek an exit.

Klopp who has always appeared to favour the midfielder will also likely be keen to get him a club where he could get consistent playing time in order to prove his fitness and ability once again.

The Magpies are in need of recruiting several new players this summer and must add players who are proven in the Premier League in order to boost the overall quality of their squad.

Lallana, who has featured 168 times in England’s top-flight, would be a very good signing for Rafa Benitez to make as the midfielder is an excellent passer of the ball and has the necessary experience to see him hit the ground running at the club.

The 30-year-old’s ability to run at opponents in order to utilise his tricky feet would see him boost the Magpies’ attacking threat and aid their quest to finish in the top-half of the Premier League next season.

The Liverpool Echo suggested in a recent report that the Reds could offload Lallana for half of the amount they paid for him, which was £25million, and that should see him be a realistic target within the Magpies’ budget.

Given the element of risk there may be to signing the experienced midfielder after his recent injuries and Klopp’s clear admiration for the player, then the Reds may opt to loan him to the Magpies instead of selling him in this window.

This option seems realistic and would see the Magpies welcome a talented player who would be useful to them while not seeing their transfer budget used up.

Therefore the Magpies must at the very least enquire about Lallana as he could be a realistic player for them to try and sign in this window.

In other Liverpool news, the club have reopened transfer negotiations for Nabil Fekir.
