Shearer slams Klopp after Liverpool v Everton clash, reveals who was to blame for draw

Alan Shearer has slammed Jurgen Klopp for criticising the referee for awarding Everton a penalty in the Merseyside derby.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, the pundit dismissed Klopp’s concerns and said he should look closer to home for someone to blame.

“Have a look at your team selection, they’ve left a guy out who scored a hat-trick in midweek and as a centre forward I know that the time to be left out is not when you’re not scoring goals,” said Shearer.

Everton scrapped a 1-1 draw with Liverpool after Wayne Rooney converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute to cancel out Mohamed Salah’s 42nd minute goal.

Klopp fumed in his post match interview about the penalty decision, revealing he didn’t believe it was the right call.

Shearer wasn’t the only one to question Klopp’s team choice as fans fumed ahead of their clash with Everton because the manager dropped Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

Dominic Solanke started the game up front despite only starting one other Premier League game all season.

Shearer believed that Solanke shouldn’t have started as he is “still learning his trade” and the game against the Toffees was “important.”

The pundit then said the manager should blame himself along with his players for “stupid” defending.

Shearer also said the Reds failure to go 2-0 up through Sadio Mane before half-time was to blame.

Mane could have passed to Salah so he could have scored a tap-in but the striker opted to go it alone, and failed to score.

Liverpool are next in action on Wednesday against West Bromwich Albion.

In other Liverpool news, Reds legend John Arne Riise has criticised Klopp for this decision he made against Everton.
