Pundit amazed by Arsenal after Kai Havertz update - 'I'm sure their fans agree'

Kai Havertz is not the type of striker that Arsenal needs.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that the Chelsea striker is not a transfer that Mikel Arteta should pursue.

Havertz has said his goodbyes to his Chelsea teammates and is set to move to Arsenal in a deal worth £65 million, sources have told Football Insider.

Chelsea are open to the sale of Havertz following his mixed 2022-23 campaign – in which 47 appearances across all competitions yielded just nine goals and one assist.

He has managed 32 goals and 15 assists in 139 games for the Londoners since joining in 2020 – and scored the winner in the Champions League final against Man City in 2021.

Havertz, who earns a reported £250,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, has two years remaining on his Chelsea contract.

With a potential move to Arsenal on the cards, Agbonlahor believes that the Gunners are going in the wrong direction by trying to sign him.

“I don’t understand that transfer its very strange,” he told Football Insider.

“Arsenal haven’t learned their lesson with transfers, Kai Havertz is not a clinical striker.

“He is not an out and out number nine, which what Arsenal need as they currently have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah but require an upgrade on them.

“Havertz hasn’t got that finishing instinct, so it is very strange from Arsenal if they are going to give £50-£60million to Chelsea, so they can then sign a player that the Gunners want in Moises Caicedo.

“It would be a wrong deal for the Gunners, and I am sure that their fans would agree.”
