Sources: Liverpool make decision over scheduling friendly after Fulham clash postponed
Liverpool will not be replacing their postponed fixture against Fulham on 18 March with a behind-closed-doors friendly at the club’s Kirkby training ground, sources have told Football Insider.
The Cottagers’ progression to the FA Cup quarter-finals means they will face Manchester United at Old Trafford on the weekend after next instead of heading to Anfield as originally scheduled.
And the delaying of that Premier League clash combined with an upcoming international break means the Reds now won’t contest a game for 18 days.
They face Real Madrid away from home in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on March 15 but face a lengthy break before travelling to champions Manchester City on April 1.
Jurgen Klopp has regularly chosen to fill such large gaps in his team’s calendar with behind-closed-doors friendlies during his time in charge at Anfield.
However, that won’t be the case this time around, with sources telling Football Insider that the scheduling of that trip to Madrid and the fact that many players will represent their countries shortly after meaning there are no fears over a potential loss of rhythm.

Klopp is in fact considering giving his squad extra time off in recognition of their efforts in reviving their form of late.
Liverpool’s last five Premier League outings have seen them post four wins and a draw to bring themselves firmly back into into top-four contention.
That recent turnaround culminated in the Reds demolishing their bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, running out 7-0 winners.
Klopp gave his players two days off after that victory, asking them to return to the club’s Kirkby training ground on Wednesday to begin preparations for this weekend’s trip to Bournemouth.
And there will be hopes that a recent resurgence can be sustained against the Premier League’s bottom team, who have won one of their last 12 outings, losing nine of them.
