Sources: Major Ben Doak update after sickening head injury
Liverpool are confident Ben Doak will be passed fit to fly home after suffering a sickening blow to the head during their UEFA Youth League defeat to Sporting Lisbon, sources have told Football Insider.
The Scot was forced off in the early stages of the Reds’ quarter-final tie on Tuesday afternoon having looked shaky on his feet in the immediate aftermath of a collision with Sporting’s Joao Muniz.
He reported dizziness to the club’s medical staff, who subsequently elected to withdraw him from the action, with Ranel Young taking his place.
Barry Lewtas’ men went on to suffer a 1-0 defeat that ended their interest in the competition, Rodrigo Ribeiro’s controversial goal deciding the game.
Liverpool were aggrieved by a perceive block on defender Lee Jonas in the build-up, but were given short shrift by the referee.
There was better news at full-time, however, with Doak‘s condition having improved sufficiently for him to join his teammates on the pitch.

The Reds’ medical team will now follow standard FA concussion protocols with the youngster, though they are optimistic that he will be able to join the squad in flying home from Lisbon.
The early loss of Doak proved a major blow for the U19s given his importance to his team thus far this season.
The winger had provided four goals and four assists in the UEFA Youth League to propel Lewtas’ side into the last eight of Europe’s elite youth competition.
His maiden campaign on Merseyside since a summer move from boyhood club Celtic has also featured plenty of first-team involvement.
Doak has already made five appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s senior side, with two of those seeing him come from the in the Premier League.
