Liverpool sporting director update from senior sources after confirmed Paul Mitchell news
Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell is not in the running to take up a similar role at Liverpool, sources have told Football Insider.
The 41-year-old confirmed on Wednesday that he will bring a three-year stint with the Ligue 1 club to an end this summer, 12 months prior to the expiry of his contract.
That news had served to fuel speculation that the Reds were lining Mitchell up as they look to replace outgoing sporting director Julian Ward.
However, senior Liverpool sources have told Football Insider that the Englishman is not among the names being considered at Anfield.
The Reds are still in the process of identifying a successor to Ward, who will leave just a year on from stepping in following Michael Edwards’ departure.
He is set to remain in post until the summer and is still expected to play a key role in transfer business in the months ahead despite reports linking him with a move to Ajax.

As for Mitchell, his next move remains to be seen, with Tottenham reportedly keen on securing his services.
The former Wigan and MK Dons defender previously spent two years working for Spurs alongside Mauricio Pochettino, bringing the likes of Dele Alli and Son Heung-min to the club in that time.
Explaining his decision to leave Monaco, Mitchell told Nice-Matin: “It was a very difficult decision. I loved my experience at this club.
“I have always felt a lot of support from president Dmitry Rybolovlev. We had several discussions about my mission, about the possibility of changing roles within the club, of extending my contract. I am very grateful to the president for trusting me. We have built a relationship based on transparency and honesty.
“But I have spent a lot of time away from home and my loved ones in recent years. I feel that the mission I had, which was to rebuild the sports project, has been fulfilled.”
