Sources: Liverpool close in on Mac Allister signing as release clause revealed

Liverpool are progressing with talks to sign Alexis Mac Allister this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds have made the 24-year-old a top priority signing this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield options ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Brighton are now resigned to losing Mac Allister, with Liverpool pushing to sign him and the player open to a move.

Mac Allister signed a new contract with the Seagulls in October, and it is now understood that his deal includes a release clause that is set to become active this summer.

Liverpool’s talks with Brighton are advancing and the two parties are now discussing how to structure the transfer fee.

The Merseyside club are in pole position to sign Mac Allister, but Man United and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the situation in case a move becomes available.

Football Insider sources revealed earlier this month that Liverpool have offered Mac Allister a “huge” salary that would triple his current deal.

The Argentina international has become a star player at the Amex Stadium this season, helping his nation to win the 2022 World Cup while simultaneously pushing Brighton to compete for European qualification.

Mac Allister has scored 12 goals and assisted twice in 37 appearances across all competitions for the south coast side this season.

He started the campaign playing in a deeper role under Graham Potter, but has shown his versatility in midfield since the arrival of Roberto de Zerbi by playing a more advanced position.
